North Yorkshire Police Authority is an independent body of 17 members, created on 1 April 1995.
The area served by the Authority and the North Yorkshire Police Force comprises the North Yorkshire County Council and the City of York areas - one of the largest policing areas in the country.

The Authority works with the Chief Constable to prepare a rolling 3 year strategy for the development of the service which sets out the way in which the area will be policed having regard to the Home Secretary's national policing priorities and the local priorities determined by NYPA. This document is called North Yorkshire Policing Plan.
Deputy Chief Constable Tim Madgwick today (16 May) takes up the post of Temporary Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police.
A brand new state-of-the-art police station has been opened to serve communities in Harrogate and the surrounding area.
